It’s a big day for Bihar! The Election Commission of India (ECI) will announce the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 dates at 4 PM today, setting the stage for what promises to be a high-stakes political battle. But before the political buzz kicks in, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to launch a major infrastructure milestone — the first phase of Patna Metro.

Bihar Election 2025: Poll Dates to Drop at 4 PM

After weeks of speculation, all eyes are on the Election Commission’s press conference scheduled for 4 PM today. The EC had already held a detailed briefing on Sunday, where Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar confirmed 17 key changes for the upcoming Bihar polls.

However, one major revelation from Sunday’s session was that Aadhaar cards cannot be used as proof of date of birth, residence, or citizenship, following Supreme Court orders and the Aadhaar Act.

Kumar also confirmed that the voting process will be completed before November 22, when the current Assembly term ends. Bihar has 243 constituencies, including 2 ST and 38 SC reserved seats.

Patna Metro Launch: Bihar Steps Into the Metro Map of India

Even as Bihar gears up for elections, it’s also celebrating progress. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is all set to inaugurate the first phase of Patna Metro today at 11 AM. The new line — part of the Blue Line Corridor — will run from Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) to Bhoothnath, covering Patliputra ISBT, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath stations.

The metro’s Madhubani art–inspired coaches beautifully showcase Bihar’s cultural pride. Each train will have three coaches, accommodating up to 900 passengers, and run daily from 8 AM to 10 PM, with around 40–42 trips per day.

The minimum fare is set at ₹15, and the full route will cost ₹30. Initially, trains will operate at 20-minute intervals, ensuring smooth connectivity for commuters.

With this, Patna officially becomes India’s 24th city to join the country’s expanding metro network — a big leap for Bihar’s urban development story.

What Political Leaders Are Saying

The pre-election buzz is getting louder.

JMM (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) has reportedly demanded 12 seats in the Bihar elections and plans to hold talks with BJP’s Leader of Opposition and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav soon.

Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni claimed, “Seat-sharing talks are done. I’ll be the next Deputy CM.”

According to reports, the number of poll phases may be reduced this time, as political parties have requested shorter elections.

Meanwhile, BJP has launched its ‘Sujhaav Yatra’, seeking people’s feedback for its manifesto through suggestion boxes placed across Bihar’s 243 constituencies.

CEC’s Key Clarifications

During Sunday’s briefing, CEC Gyanesh Kumar shared multiple updates:

Aadhaar not mandatory: Providing an Aadhaar number for voter registration is optional under the Aadhaar Act and Representation of the People Act, 1950.

Purified voter list: Bihar’s voter list has been “purified” for the first time in 22 years, thanks to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise completed on schedule.

Poll expenses: Expenditure observers have been appointed across districts to monitor political party spending and ensure transparency.

What’s Next

By evening, Bihar will officially enter election mode as the poll dates are revealed. As the Nitish Kumar–led NDA government highlights its development record, including projects like the Patna Metro, opposition parties are gearing up with alliances and campaign strategies.

Stay tuned for live updates as Bihar sets the stage for one of India’s most closely watched elections of 2025.
